Moving Analog Indicator

A linear pointer-on-a-track indicator showing a process value in context, with an optional desired-operating band, setpoint marker, and up to four alarm limits.

In Studio

In Studio, double-click Moving Analog Indicator in the Components category of the Components panel. It is added to the open view, where you can drag it into place.

When to use

Use Moving Analog Indicator where a plain Gauge or Progress Bar is not enough context — when the operator needs to see, at a glance, not just the current value but where it sits relative to a target band and to Hi/Hi-Hi/Lo/Lo-Lo alarm limits.

Properties

PropertyTypeDefaultDescription
Process ValueString(none)The bound process value the pointer reflects (labeled "Process Value" in the Properties panel).
LabelStringPVThe caption shown below the track.
Orientationhorizontal, verticalhorizontalhorizontal (default) or vertical. The component is designed to be resized wide or tall to change orientation, per the underlying Ignition Perspective convention it mirrors.
Min ValueNumber0The value at the low end of the track.
Max ValueNumber100The value at the high end of the track.
SetpointString(none)Optional target marker position. Leaving it blank hides the marker.
Desired LowString(none)Optional low edge of the shaded desired-operating band. Leaving it blank (with Desired High also blank) hides the band.
Desired HighString(none)Optional high edge of the shaded desired-operating band.
Hi-Hi AlarmString(none)Optional Hi-Hi limit marker (diamond glyph, priority-1 alarm color). Blank hides it.
Hi AlarmString(none)Optional Hi limit marker (triangle glyph, priority-2 alarm color). Blank hides it.
Lo AlarmString(none)Optional Lo limit marker (triangle glyph, priority-2 alarm color). Blank hides it.
Lo-Lo AlarmString(none)Optional Lo-Lo limit marker (diamond glyph, priority-1 alarm color). Blank hides it.
Hi InterlockString(none)Optional high interlock limit, factored into the geometry alongside the alarm limits.
Lo InterlockString(none)Optional low interlock limit, factored into the geometry alongside the alarm limits.
Reverse Indicatorfalse, truefalseMirrors the pointer/track mapping to the other side of the range, matching the Vision-style prop of the same name it is a counterpart to.
Show Valuetrue, falsetrueShows or hides the numeric readout under the track.
Value FormatString{:.1f}A Python-style format string (e.g. {:.1f}, the default) applied to the numeric readout.
Track Endsauto, square, roundsquareThe shape of the track ends: square (default, as Ignition draws it) or round.
Stylepointer, fill, grouppointerThe improved drawing's style: pointer (default, a marker on the track, either orientation), fill (a level-style bar with an alarm badge past a limit) or group (several values on one scale; the odd one out stands out). A component that turns on none of the options below keeps the classic drawing.
Pointer Shapeflag, dotflagThe pointer: flag (the classic triangle) or dot (round, the Daylight marker). dot switches the improved drawing on.
UnitString(none)The unit text after the value. Blank takes the tag's engineering unit when it has one.
Tag (limits, history)String(none)The tag the alarm limits, history and trend popup read. Blank uses the tag bound to Process Value.
Limit Marksfalse, truefalseDraws HH, H, L and LL ticks in their priority colors, named under the track. Uses the Hi/Lo alarm limits above and, with Limits From Tag Alarms, the tag's own.
Limits From Tag Alarmsfalse, truefalseReads HH/H/L/LL (and their priorities) from the bound tag's alarm configuration. Any session that may read the tag's value gets the limits (setpoint and priority only; the rest of the tag configuration stays designer-only). A Hi/Lo limit set on the component replaces the tag's for that limit.
Show Setpoint Valuefalse, truefalseShows the setpoint tick with its value (SP 6.5) under the track.
Drag Setpointfalse, truefalseLets the operator drag the setpoint tick (or use the arrow keys) to write a new setpoint. Needs a bidirectional binding on Setpoint; read-only pages and sessions get no handle. The write follows the same signature and security rules as the inputs.
Recent Range (min)Number0Draws a soft bar from the lowest to the highest value over the last N minutes (from history), so you can see how much the value has been moving. 0 turns it off.
Min/Max Markersoff, shift, resetoffGray min and max ticks: shift keeps them since the shift began, reset since the operator last pressed Reset min/max. Held per browser. off hides them.
Shift Start HourNumber6The hour (0-23, local time) the first shift of the day starts, for the shift min/max markers.
Shift Length (h)Number8How long a shift is, in hours, for the shift min/max markers.
Rate Arrowfalse, truefalseShows an up, down or steady arrow with the change over the rate window, so a value heading for H is obvious before the alarm.
Rate Window (min)Number10The rate window in minutes (the arrow reads "+0.4 / 10 min").
Alarm And Quality Colorsfalse, truefalseThe pointer and value take the color of the active alarm priority (past H, past HH ...). Bad quality draws a purple pointer and stale a gray one, with the quality named, instead of the no-data hatch.
Click Opens Trendfalse, truefalseTapping the indicator opens a 1-hour trend of the tag with its alarm limits. Needs a tag (Process Value binding or Tag).
Group ValuesString(none)For the group style: bind to an array (or a comma list) of values, one pointer each on the shared scale.
Group LabelsString(none)For the group style: comma-separated names under each pointer (DE,NDE,W1,W2).

Binding

Click Bind… on the Process Value property and bind it to a tag or an expression to drive the live value.

This binding is read-only — the component never writes to the tag.

A value outside the track (a pegged sensor, a wire fault) still draws the pointer at the extreme, but with a distinct hollow marker, a caution color, and an arrow — never identically to a value exactly at the limit. Bad/Stale/Error quality on the binding replaces the entire indication with a no-data hatch rather than showing a stale reading as live.
